Our story
In 1962, a small group of Lutherans began meeting for Bible study and planning a Lutheran Church. On May 17, 1964 approximately 23 worshippers attended church services at a
private residence (Peck's) in Pine Grove.
For the next two years services were held twice a month at Ray Willingham's Pioneer Motel. A converted garage served as a meeting room with an altar, pulpit and benches. Pastor E. Luther Kroenk
of Elk Grove and Pastor Ernest Adams of Galt served as the interim ministers.
In May 1965, land was purchased on Highway 88 near Red Corral Road for the construction of the church and parsonage. The first permanent minister, Pastor Wallace Lundeen and family, arrived in
September of 1965 to serve the congregation.
In February 1966, a building design was selected. The first Church Council was elected on March 8, 1966, and a formal "Declaration of Organization" was declared with 27 confirmed and 40 baptized
members.
In April of 1966, groundbreaking ceremonies were held and construction of the parsonage was begun. On December 23 of 1966, the first service was held in the unfinished church.
The new church was dedicated on February 12, 1967 with members, community residents and guests totaling approximately 500 in attendance.
