The Guitar Eucharist

On every Sunday except the first Sunday of the month a service of Holy Communion is held at 8:00 a.m. We call this a "Guitar Eucharist" because the liturgy is accompanied by guitar. "Eucharist" is another name for the sacrament of "Holy Communion" and comes from the Greek word meaning "to give thanks."

The setting of the worship service, entitled "Now the Feast and Celebration," was written by composer Marty Haugen, whose hymns and music for worship are well-known throughout many churches. His evening vespers service, often called "Holden Evening Prayer" because he composed it while on sabbatical at Holden Village in Washington, is very popular in the Lutheran Church.

You are welcome to join us for this service. We practice "open communion" at Faith Lutheran church which means that all baptized Christians who confess Jesus as Lord are welcome to come to the Lord's table. Children are welcome to come forward to receive a blessing as well and any children who have received instruction for Holy Communion (at about age ten at Faith Lutheran) are welcome to receive the sacrament.

We especially welcome any musicians interested in helping accompany the service to contact us at Faith Lutheran (295-4545). On the first Sunday of every month an 8:00 a.m. service is not held. The congregation gathers for a service of Holy Communion at 10:30 a.m.
